Beauty is not always a picture, but an experience!

In college, the dorm I lived in was a 10 story building in downtown Chicago. Being downtown there were not many places you could go to just sit and enjoy the sunshine of a beautiful crisp fall day or the warmth of a late spring afternoon. The view from the rooftop was amazing, right though the buildings to see Lake Michigan in the not too far distance. I thought nothing in the city could compare to those moments, but there were so many things I saw and experienced that made this pale in comparison.

A walk a few blocks toward the lake revealed beautiful homes where you could imagine the inhabitants were well off and I am sure they enjoyed all kinds of comfort.  A walk a few blocks the other way and you were in a rough part of the city we were encouraged to avoid for our own safety.

Beauty is not always a picture, but an experience!

The college had a chapel every week day and one such chapel was the greatest example of this beauty.  The whole student body went outside and surrounded the school, held hands and sang out Great Is Thy Faithfulness! Hundreds of students singing out loud for the city around us to hear is a beautiful experience.

Insight for today:  Look for the beauty in the experiences around me!
