Comfort and Honesty

 Had supper with a dear friend and in the midst of our conversation she said something that hit home with me. “You feel comfortable with me that’s why you are able to be so honest about your feelings and what’s going on.”  

Do comfort and honesty go hand in hand?  I kept thinking about this over the rest of the evening.  Being comfortable with someone brings a sense of safety and belonging that we all yearn for.  So in my opinion, yes they do go hand in hand, especially when you start to share something that is so deep in you that it even makes you uncomfortable.  You need to feel that safety (comfort) to move in the direction of being vulnerable.  This is not something that happens right away in a relationship it takes time and effort. Effort is usually the hardest part of this equation, you have be a planner, a scheduler. 

Insight for today: Do what it takes to find comfort and honesty in my friendships!
