Conversation with my son!

When your children are young you wonder what they will be like as adults and what kind of relationship you will have with them.  You see them as they grow and pray that what you taught them will stick.  Well it does in a way, they mold their own version of what you had for them but none the less they do remember things you said or did when they were children.

Last night I spent 2 hours on the phone with my grown son and listening to his dreams for his future and things he remembers from his childhood.  I can say with all honesty that I didn’t know if we could have a conversation like this, as I struggled watching him struggle and all I wanted to do was tell him what to do, however, last night I listened to a man trying to figure out his next steps and wanting a little advice.  This was a turning point for us.  I found myself swelling with pride that he is coming to some decisions but I can also see how he is taking what we had always told him about making big decisions.  We have told our kids what we have done, which is seek advice from those we know have our best interest in mind and that was usually our own parents.

Insight for the day:  our children are taking the things we taught them , molding them to their lives in ways that may be different, but they are listening and watching!!!!!
