Let's Not Play Follow The Leader When They Are Heading The Wrong Way!

At one of my daughter’s birthday sleepovers, I played a trick on the girls.  I took two coffee cups and I blackened the bottom of one of the cups with a match and then filled both of them with water.  I handed the cup with the blackened bottom to one of the girls and I had the other.  I sat down across from her and told her that she had to follow my every movement. I would dip my finger in the water then rub the bottom of the cup and then rub my finger on my face, while the girl sitting across from me did the exact same thing.  The only thing is as she was rubbing the bottom of her cup, she was getting the blackened soot from the bottom of the cup on her finger and then rubbing it on her face.

While this was harmless and funny, what I remember is even after the girls saw what happened with the first girl they all wanted to do it too.

Why do we think that blindly following someone even after we know the outcome wouldn't be good, we head in the same direction is a good thing to do?  We think that won't happen to me like it did to the other person and yet most times the outcome is the same or even worse.

We make decisions every day to follow someone else's lead, this can be with a bad attitude, bad habit, gossiping, or worse hurting someone so deeply with our words that they lose trust in the people around them.

Let's Not Play Follow The Leader When They
Are Heading The Wrong Way!

Insight for today: I want to be the right kind of leader/example and not be just a follower.
