Trust Is Earned, But It Can Also Be Lost!

When my son was little he was afraid of being in a pool.  This was difficult for him as he always wanted to do whatever his sister was doing and she loved swimming.  I remember one time we went to a water park with a group from our church and the group wanted to go into the wave pool, so he wanted to go too, but oh how he would hold on to me for dear life.  He held on to me so tightly that he rubbed all the sunscreen off of my shoulders leaving me to get sunburned.  Ouch!

This fear for him continued until we had a retired physical education teacher take time with him all by himself to find out why he was scared and she worked with him until he trusted her and himself enough to venture away from the edge of the pool. She had earned his trust.

I have had moments in my own life that I had to either build trust in someone or something or help someone to trust in someone or something. Whether it was a friend, a new leader/boss, etc.

Trust Is Earned, But It Can Also Be Lost!

The big thing is to be someone who is trustworthy! Follow through on your word, be vulnerable and become a trustworthy person!

Recently, I saw a social media post by someone who hurt me many, many years ago and I was drawn by the fact that the reason for the hurt was because I lost my trust in them and I so wanted to trust them.

Insight for today: Build trust and give trust to those around me!
